What makes a captain strong is not only their knowledge. Even the most experienced captain remains incomplete without a good crew. I understood this very clearly during a challenging voyage in the Black Sea.
During a night watch, an unusual sound came from the engine room. A young crew member noticed it—but instead of dismissing it as insignificant, he immediately reported it. Action was taken, and a major breakdown was prevented.
That day, I realized that responsibility at sea is not measured by age, but by character.
